Senior Aerospace Weston
Lancashire based precision engineering company, Senior Aerospace Weston, manufacturers aerofoil and aerostructure components for commercial aviation programmes. Founded in 1937 and now part of FTSE 250-listed Senior plc, the Earby facility works with OEMs including Rolls-Royce, Airbus, MTU Engines, and Spirit Aerosystems. The company's capabilities span 3 to 5-axis CNC machining and grinding, CAD/CAM, assembly, NDT, surface treatment, and robotic polishing.
High-speed CNC machining across a diverse fleet of machines processing materials including aluminium, titanium, bronze, nimonic, inconel, and steel generate significant volumes of oil mist that needed to be removed from the working environment. Maintaining a clean, orderly workshop is not simply a preference at Senior Aerospace Weston; it is integral to producing high-specification aerospace components and meeting the company's exacting quality and environmental standards.
With 58 Filtermist oil mist extraction units now installed across the machine shop, oil mist is effectively captured at source across the entire fleet. The solution has supported Senior Aerospace Weston's commitment to a clean, safe working environment which goes hand in hand with being a leading aerospace manufacturer. Ongoing maintenance is straightforward: the units are easily accessible for service engineers, and the F Monitor's traffic light system allows operators to see at a glance whether any of the oil mist filters require attention.
Following an initial approach to Filtermist Senior Aerospace Weston received a free on-site survey to assess the specific requirements of its varied machine fleet. FX6002 and FX7002 Filtermist oil mist filters were specified across 58 machine tools from manufacturers including Matsuura, DN Solutions (via Mills CNC), Grob, and Hermle. Some larger machines required multiple units to ensure sufficient extraction volume. All units were fitted with F Monitors performance monitors designed to make it easy to see if the extraction is working as intended via a traffic light indicator system.
